Don't do it "for the likes"; do it for the hikes!

NEW GRANT!

Grass & Roots Outdoors and New Foundations Saint Peter receives $10,000 from Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation’s Early Care and Education Wrap Around Grant, to collaborate and increase year-round, nature-based, play-based learning opportunities and experiences for children ages birth to eight years. (February 28, 2022) 

 Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF), in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), approved 17 grants through its Early Care and Education Wrap Around Grant program totaling $220,818, impacting 3,562 young children. This special grant program helps fund early care and education wrap around services for children birth to age eight from underserved and diverse populations in SMIF’s 20-county region.

Let's Get Outside, St. Peter!

Thanks to Philip Weyhe and the St. Peter Herald!  We took a shady summer stroll into the woods, with two very cool local kids.  These young outdoors explorers have a bright future ahead of them!  (June 8, 2021)

"To Trish Hiscock-Austin, “into the woods” isn’t a frightening proposition; it’s an essential experience — or at least she’d like it to be, especially for kids. “I don’t use the word ‘play’ lightly; that word means a lot to me,” she said. “Kids spend a lot of time in different settings doing school lessons and things their parents planned for them. I’m a huge advocate for creating spaces where kids are allowed to play freely.”
